Nyiragongo Crater: Journey to the Center of the World (PICS)
In June 2010, a team of scientists and intrepid explorers stepped onto the shore of the lava lake boiling in the depths of Nyiragongo Crater, in the heart of the Great Lakes region of Africa. The team had dreamed of this: walking on the shores of the world's largest lava lake. Members of the team had been dazzled since childhood by the images of the 1960 documentary "The Devil's Blast" by Haroun Tazieff, who was the first to reveal to the public the glowing red breakers crashing at the bottom of Nyiragongo crater. Photographer Olivier Grunewald was within a meter of the lake itself, giving us a unique glimpse of it's molten matter. Why Video Game Music Deserves A Dedicated Grammy Award
Seeing as how "Awards Season" comes to a close tonight with the Academy Awards, it seems an appropriate time as any to bring this up for consideration for next year. Because history was made at one of this year's other big trophy-fests, the Grammy Awards, when a piece of music originally composed for a video game won an award; the first time music created for a game has received such an honor. The award bestowed upon Christopher Tin was a milestone moment and a beginning, a beginning from which other artists who bring game audio to life deserve to be honored, a beginning which couldn't have happened if not for a push for recognition for game music that began over a decade ago.

After two years of trying, the Obama administration finally succeeded, late last week, in rescinding the "conscience clause," a federal regulation designed to protect pharmacists and health care workers who want to refuse to provide care based on moral or religious grounds.
